THANK YOU! Hello Beautiful People, We are 5 awesome folks (3 women and 2 guys, 3 people of color and 2 white people) with 1 room opening up in our community home. The room is available Feb 1st. We are politically left/progressive house and enjoy having discussions about current events and political ideas. We are straightforward communicators with zero tolerance for passive-aggressive behavior and ask that you be the same. We emphasis developing positive interpersonal relationships with each other and discuss everything from how our day was to who we are dating or what's going on in our lives. In the new year we are planning to take American Sign Language classes together and are striving to build in more house activities like movie nights, dinners, and game nights. Additionally, we have 2 cats who are sweet and playful. Unfortunately, we cannot have any additional pets. We would like to maintain the diversity of the house and encourage people of color to apply. We are looking for someone who; is able to pay rent and bills on time, is interested in organizing activities/social time for the house, has the desire to be in community with is, will pick up after themselves & do their chores, will prioritize house meetings, is a straight forward communicator, and likes cats. The Room and $: The room is $520 and is an awesome attic room with dark hard wood floors (pictured). It's approximately 11x10.5. It has large closets and small windows that provide natural light. Utilities run about $50-$100 per month and includes internet, electric, gas, and water. A deposit equal to one month's rent is required. There is a $60 application/lease change fee. The House: The house is large and fully furnished so we are looking for people who will not be bringing much with them. The house has a fully remodeled kitchen, dining room, living room, a sun room, a laundry room with new appliances, a basement, an attic, multiple bedrooms, and bathrooms galore. There's also a large, fenced-in backyard. Last, but definitely not least, we have central air and heat. The house is located in the Manor Park area, which is a very quiet residential neighborhood close to Takoma Park and Fort Totten. It is located about one mile the Fort Totten Metro Station which is a transportation hub with the green, yellow and red lines. The metro station can be accessed by bus (10 minutes) or on foot (20 minutes). The house is across the street from Fort Slocum Park. Unzoned street parking is available in front of the house. The Roommates: #1: Carrie is a white, bisexual woman in her mid 30's. She is socialist and passionate about challenging oppression (racism, classism, sexism, transphobia, ablism, etc. She's a server/bartender and social worker. She makes great cocktails, attends study groups (history and politics), studies Spanish and enjoys making jewelry. #2: Dennis is a very progressive, heterosexual, 29-year-old guy with an eye for brunch, film, books, active living, karaoke, and punk rock. Works as a consultant at a software company during the week. On the weekends, he volunteers for various causes: Food Not Bombs DC, Positive Force, and Food for All. #3: Mia is a gardener, teacher, activist and artist; 29 years old and queer. She works at a school as the garden coordinator/teacher, is finishing a degree in elementary education, volunteers at an urban farm, and is committed to working toward racial and economic justice. She is involved in the food justice movement and the DC Childcare Collective. She also loves cooking all kinds of vegan dishes, making art & crafts, biking, dancing, stretching and meditation. #4: Felicia is 30 years old and is living her life to the fullest. She loves to learn new things, especially with the community regarding to raising the awareness for the social justice! She is a Black Deaf woman who loves to cook various foods! #5: Hierald is lover of music, dancing, cooking, loves dessert, and is an avid reader of post-colonial theory, theology, anthropology, history queer studies, and anything in-between. As a 30 year old queer, Latino, male he's passionate about intersectionality and how to engage the complexities of identities against the backdrop of unjust systems of oppression. He currently works with faith-based communities committed to social justice and is actively involved in his local DC congregation. #Cats: Mishi and Emma are fun, playful, and well cared for kitties. Mishi plays fetch like a dog, and Emma is a snuggle bug. They love people. Like, REALLY love people. And we need you to love them back so please be willing to show them attention/play with them.
