Dear Mr, StingYou wrote me a very detailed letter and I must say your English is very good.I learn a lot about evryday life in great China. I can'nt emagin so big contry with so much population. Did you study about Israel ever befor? Well, we are very small but famous contry. The population in Israel is six million only.We are called 'The Bible people".Have you ever heard about our most Holly Book called The Bible.

These is the most well known book in the world and was translated to most of the langueges (more than 100). I'll tell you a little about myself. I'm 49 year old, married and have two daugters (21 and 16) and a boy (11 years old).

I live in a big city by the beach, in a building with only seven floors. I'm in the sixth floor face to the sea with wonderful view. I have 4 rooms plus a kitchen. I have two cars. One for my wife (a french car) and one which I use and it's Subaru Forester 4 wheel drive (Japanees car).

My big daugter has a driving license and she also use my wife's car. Here in Isreal every one who reach 17 can start takeing driving lessons.Almost every family here own a car. My clinic is in the contry, 13 killometer outside the city so I drive 15 minutes to work.My wife is a laborant-secretary and works 25 k"m from home.

In her work they check the quality of the milk. Our money is called New-Shekel and it's worth 4.77 for one Dollar. AS you are, I was born in a village and lived there until I was 33 years old, than I decided to move to a big city.

I have 5 brothers and three of them still live in that village. One more live in nearby village and one live in Ney-york. All of them are married with kids.

All of them own cars and we meet on hollidays or weekends. Now I have to go to help my son with his homwork. So, excuse me.

Have a nice weekend Moni

Hello Sting, Happy New Year to you too. How are you today?

Is it cold where you are? It is here. It snowed yesterday. I live in the valley. There are mountains to the west of the city of Reno. Reno is Spark’s sister city meaning they are right next to each other. I live in Sparks. We have apartment house like that also. I share a house with my husband, his brother, my son and his wife.

Our house cost $2,600 a month to run. That is mortgage, utilities and everything else they make you buy. Sounds like your money goes much further than mine. We have a garden in the back yard. I love to cook. I like all kinds of food. I have an allergy to wheat, so I can not eat any. That is the main ingredient in bread and and most American food. I am also a vegetarian, so it is no meat either. I am not your typical American.

I tend to think of people as people. We all share a common ancestry. Isn’t it funny how being born in this place or that place determines, how we get to live? I always thought people should be able to go where they want and do what they want. If we all had self discipline this would work. I just read in the paper this morning, it was saying it is easy to get a visa to travel abroad now for Chinese people. You should try.

I have traveled all over America many times. I like Nevada, California the best, Arizona is really nice too . I have been to Phoenix before. It is a very large desert city. If you go to the photos part of my site, you can see what it looks like around the area I live in. I grew up on a farm in New York.

My parents still have it. New York winters are cold and brutal. I don’t like the cold that much, so I moved to Nevada. What is the year and animal for the Chinese New Year this year? I was born in the year of the Dragon and my husband was born in the year of the monkey.

I’m wishing you the best of luck for the Chinese New Year. ;-)Maryann

Hello Sting, How are you today? It was snowing a couple of days ago and today we have spring weather. Most Americans only eat meat from cows, pigs, lamb and chicken. They don’t count fish as meat. I am a vegetarian also. I don’t eat meat because I believe creatures need their body to live and I can live on plants, so I should.

I turned my backyard into a vegetable garden. Can you receive email pictures? If so I can send some pictures of my garden directly to you. If not I can post some on my website for you. My city doesn’t look much different from yours.

We have a lot of warehouses in Sparks. Our state of Nevada legalized gambling, so there are many casinos. Sparks has a population of 65,000 and Reno’s is a little higher. They grew together into one city with two separate governments. I grew up in New York state near a farm village, which is on the east coast and further north. I like Nevada. The weather is mild and everything you could ever want is here.

I looked at your native land pictures. I especially think your farm land is beautiful. Why are there only two boats in the water around the harbor? I am impressed by how clean everything is. I don’t have much money either. It is hard right now. Everyone I know is having trouble. Our newest leader is not so good with the economy. Our last one was good, but we have a two term limit. Now this leader wants to start wars with everyone. Most American people are against war. We don’t have any say in what the leaders do.

They are all millionaires and stand to make a lot of money on war. Most Americans are hard working people who don’t get into politics. Activists run into the same kind of trouble here as your country. I think people are the same all over. Good, bad and indifferent.

I owned the first internet café in Reno. I closed it because of the Sept 11 thing and travel stopped. I didn’t have enough resources to stick it out. It was fun and I did talk with a lot of people that were from your country.

I hope your spring festival is lots of fun. It sure sounds like it. I hope your day is good. I’ll converse with you later. ;-)Maryann

bit sad really Britain there's not much to tell about it, and its a very small island off the coast of Europe. it's the second richest country on earth and the third largest economy.

it owns 30 per cent of American industry, 10 per cent of American military factories it's really been known for nothing apart from imperialism, introducing opium into china starting the slave trade and like fools we have just fitted another 12 of our submarines with tomahawk cruise missiles。 every dollar profit from that purchase comes back to Britain as the factory is owned by Britain so silly us our nuclear armament is colossal .

It was very difficult to live in Britain over the last twenty years as unemployment was large as factories where closed 。and our money was sent to other countries to build and buy factories there。

the Japanese came to Britain in those days but now Britain is back building it's own TV,s washing machines, dvds.computer chips and upgrading nuclear fuel for the world, all our motorbikes are sold to japan, the triumph company cant meet demand and are expanding there factories。

oil fields off the north sea are earning money and the British pipelines in Alaska supply American states with oil in the western countries 。

Britain has less unemployment that any other country at the moment in the days of old Britain had the largest navy。 but now it's only third largest But with the new aircraft carriers being built it might help America asked Britain to help in the gulf and 20,000 special forces are being sent 。

Tradition is the base of a nation. These is the main glue that unite people. All the belives, faiths, habits make the religions so interesting and colourful. I consider myself as a conservative.

I follow my father's traditional inheritance but I'm not so religious. As you probably know, the jews are consider as a very old nation with history goes back 5000 years. We have several holidays which related to major events that hapened to our ancientors.

Many of our holidays and habits are part in the tradition of many non-jews people in the world. The cristians and the muslems celebrate the same holidays of ours but in some different variations. In to weeks you, the Chainees people celebrate the spring holidays.

We also celebrate a one day celebration to the trees. We plant new little trees and flowers and we eat a lot of fruits and many kinds of dried fruits, grains and seeds. We call these holiday: "Tu-bishvat". You asked me to describe my city for you. Well, my city is young. It was established in 1964. Since that year the city keep growing and now it's the sixth biggest city in Israel according to the population.

We are almost 200,000 inhabitants. The major work area is the sea-port, and we have progresive electric factory, chemical factories, commercial stores centers and so on. The city divided into 15 quarters and every quarter has it own commercial center, schools, kindergardens, health clinics and al other community services.

I volunter in the parents-committee at the school of my boy. The city locate very close to the sea and we have beautiful sand beaches. there is a marina with all kind of motor boats, sailing-boats and yachts. Three years ago, my wife and I, took marine lessones to drive a motor-boats and we had a test and we got a licence to drive yachts. We have bus and taxies services to all part of the country. Also we have trains transportation.

A ticket by bus to Tel-Aviv which is the second bigest city in Israel (one hour drive) costs about 4 US dollar. The same is by train. If you are a senior citizen (over 65 man, 60 woman) you get 50% discount. We have cable TV with almost 70 channels and lately we can be connected to a satalite and have 130 channels. We have Local TV channels and many channel from Europe contries, such as Frace, Germany, Rusia, Turkey, Spain, England and many more.

Of course we see American channel and Arab states channels. I saw your last albom. The view of your city is lovely. And the industrial area is very remakable especialy with the beautiful gardening.

I want to ask you:What is the name of the river? What is the big complex (a palace?) on the little island? Wish you and your family happy holidays.

Bye Moni

We just welcomed in the year 2003. We do this the last day of 2002 by celebrating with parties. We dress in our very best. We dance, drink and party. A lot of people go to New York City to celebrate in the streets and watch the large ball drop at mid-night from the center of the city.

At mid-night everything gets even more exciting. Confetti, noise, fireworks. Some people just stay home and shot there guns into the air when mid-night comes. We can have as many children as we choose. We had four, that's a lot, most people choose to just have one or two because of expenses. Some poor people who get government checks have many, many, children because the more they have the bigger their check from the government are.

We don't like this because it comes from us paying taxes. Most people that do this are uneducated black Americans. We have snow on the ground right now in Indianapolis, we have had snow since Christmas,12-25-02. It's very cold about 30 degrees but it could be worst. We live close to the city in a beautiful brick home built many years ago.

We live very comfortable and are very grateful to be Americans As Americans we are sort of lazy until we need to get up and stand tall. Like when the trade center was bombed. We were shocked that there are people in the world so evil as to do such a thing. But when something like this happens we become one. One powerful nation working together for the good of the most wonderful, free, beautiful country ever to exist.

My wife and I always have a project going on, it doesn't matter what it is as long as we do it together. Build a house, restore an antique car, a bus or whatever we happen to be doing at the time, that's what we spend our spare time doing.

We are also very involved in our grandchildren and their education. We love all food but we're finding out as we get older that some do not agree with us. But we usually have meat, vegetables and bread and desert. The truth is most Americans only know what a donkey looks like because it is the symbol for one of our political parties.

They would not dream of eating one. Several times people have started new companies promoting Americans to eat buffalo, ostrich, horse, bear, dear, but most Americans don't eat these, they eat beef, pork, poultry, seafood and some lamb, but many are vegetarines. We spend a lot of time on our computers doing a verity of different things, buying, selling educating ourselves on different subjects we're interested in.

Anyone can get an education in the USA you just have to want one and be intelligent enough to gain the knowledge. There are financial aids, grants from large companies, student loans, scholarships and of course if your parents are rich that helps to.

Our economy is a little slow right now, probably because of the terrorists attempts but it won't be long before things smoothes out it. Once the government figures it out, they will repair the problem and move on.

Your country is very beautiful as is ours but I think our government, education system, and economy are much better. Especially our rights as a free people. Best wishes, Greg

First of all, sorry about delay, but theese have been busy days. I傣e liked very much what you wrote to me. It大 very interesting know about your life & China大 life.

I挫l try to tell about me & Spain. I was born in Madrid (capital of Spain) and I lived there till I was 24. Then I moved to Lugo in NortWest, Galicia region. I live here with my husband, Lorenzo. My family is in Madrid yet, so we travel there sometimes, other times they come here, because my father大 bornplace is 80 km far from here & he has a house there.

I got my degree at Linguistics in Complutense University in 1994, but I have no work at this time. My husband is teacher. I have no kids, but I love kids. Spain is a complex country: many climate, culture, people. Here in Galicia region weather is rainy & cloudy (similar to England one).

Oficial language is spanish, of course, but too gallego, the language talked in this region. Lugo is a little town (just 90.000 people), most important monument is Roman Wall, that was built 2.000 years ago. I like about names meaning too.

Cristina has a greek origin & means "who follows Christ". Eiro?/STRONG> is my father family name, but we don呆 know its meaning, even we are looking for it for years. Santamar磲 is my mother family name (in Spain both, father大 & mother大 one is used) its meaning is "Saint Mary".

As you can see influence of catholicism is very important in Spain. About me, I belive in Good, & in Jesus (Christ), but I don呆 belive in Catholic Church or other religious institution. I think belive is a personal feling & you must respect the others belive.

Well, I don呆 want bore you. I挫l tell you more next time. Hugs, Cristina.

Hi, my Friend I’m very pleased to read your news, today. It makes me think about the differences of our respective ways of life.In your native village you have no cars, so, no frequent big travels and little or not pollution. Here, in my town, Turin, we have practically only cars. The whole city, in some way, is involved in car production industry.

I work in an automotive research centre and I must use my car to reach my office that is on the south-side of the City, about 20Km in a straight line from my home, which is in the north-side, about 40Km by road.

Every day I waste at least 2 hours driving and risking my life in the chaotic traffic of the auto route which runs around the border of the town., Every winter since about 10 years, local administration totally prohibits vehicles circulation during some week-ends and limits their use for 2 days during the working-days every week, only to even/uneven plate's number, alternately. The problem is the quality of the air.

Moreover, last year was a bad year for car industry in Italy and for its most important industry, the FIAT. This caused 8000 people to risk directly their work and 200000 indirectly and a generalized economic crisis. This probably will not be the cause, for us, of starvation but if you think that automotive industry is practically the only resource of this town it yields to uncertainty for the future of our children for which is more and more difficult to afford a good job.

I even daresay the young people could be more and more attracted by criminality and drug addiction instead of an honest job.Another big source of worries, here, is war.USA wants to definitively get rid of Saddam and put its bloody hands on the oil of Iraq. It doesn't matter how many innocents will die for this purpose.

It doesn't matter if this could cause a religion conflict between Christian and Islamic cultures. It doesn't matter if could exists a less destructive alternative to try before.

Italian Government supports armed intervention in Iraq though many Italians, like me, disagree to this intention.Dear friend, I hope that you, like I do, are against every form of violence and abuse and take care of the future of our children.Sincerely yours PNX

Good to hear from you again from so far away! It was nice of you to take out time to write from the other side of the globe. You must have been a very busy man visiting all these relatives and bringing along some gifts to each of them.

It wass very nice of you to help out your parent-in-law with such a generous gift toward builing a house for their xon. I hope building materials cost less in China than here - here a double-wide door would cost the whole $1000.

I found your story of life and living conditions in your country very interesting abd renember my youth in Europe when we had no running water, no heat, an outdoor toilet at the end of the house, no car - only a bicycle to get around in , if one was lucky enough to afford a bike.

When you describe what villages in China look like, I can well imagine it. I spent two years in the Korean countryside some fifty years ago. Of course, a lot has changed in South Korea since.

I saw internet pictures of Seoul and could not believe how much it had changed since I was there. I imagine the same will be happening in China in the next ten to twenty years?

I think life for workers will also change - workers will get better pay, work shorter hours, instead of a car will be able to get a moped or motorcycle, and instead of a motorcycle a small car. It has been happening that way all over the world, and it will eventually happen in China. The ex-soldier that fought in Korea is lucky to get such a pension.

It is a coincidence that the company I was with during the Korean War was talking to prisoners of war - both Korean and Chinese. I can understand that in the big cities and where there are more factories, workers' pay is higher - it also usually costs more to live there.

Does your wife also speak some English, or only Chinese?

And is dialect any problem in China when you go from one province to another?

I assume your New Year's Holiday will soon be over and you will be returning to the big city - Beijing, is it?

Not much new here -the real warm Florida weather is slow in coming this year.

Still no swimming in the ocean, the pool is still chilly. I wish you a safe return to your own home. With my best wishes - I don't know if it is customary in China to wish some a happy new year - if so, I wish you and your wife both a Very Happy and Prosperous one.

Cheers, bruno
